The train's operation is powered by advanced technologies. The Lionel LionChief App enables Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity, allowing users to control the train via compatible smart devices. Lionel Voice Control (LVC) further enhances the experience, enabling users to command the locomotive by speaking into their smart devices. Additionally, Voice Streaming and Recording (VSR) enables users to record their own voices, generating custom train announcements or streaming live voice through the engine.

The RailSounds RC Sound System provides an immersive audio experience, controlling steam chuffing, background sounds, whistle, bell, user-activated announcements, and movie sound clips. The FasTrack System, featuring a prototypical look and a snap-together locking mechanism, ensures tight and reliable connections.

The train set boasts an electric locomotive controlled by the remote, a powerful maintenance-free motor, and a diecast metal locomotive body. It also includes an on/off switch for smoke and sounds, operating couplers, steam chuffing and background sounds, whistle, bell, user-activated announcements, puffing smoke, an operating headlight, traction tires, soft molded diaphragms between cars, and interior illumination.

The remote control features a forward and reverse speed control knob, (3) buttons for whistle, bell, and special announcements, and requires (3) AAA alkaline batteries (not included). Regular lubrication of the wheels, axles, and linkage is recommended to avoid squeaks and wear, and the train should be wiped with a soft cloth occasionally to keep the track and wheels free from dirt and grease. All batteries should be removed when the train will not be used for an extended period. This set is suitable for ages 14 and up.
